Was just over at thee GW main page.....
In a press release issued today, you can read details from ArenaNet and NCsoft about the third game in the Guild Wars saga. Guild Wars Nightfall will present two new professions—the Dervish and the Paragon—and will offer "a Guild Wars game unlike any players have seen before". And in the same announcement, you can read plans for an exciting PvP event, scheduled to begin July 28th.
During the PVP Preview Event, both Guild Wars and Guild Wars Factions® players will get a first look at Guild Wars Nightfall, and will be able to try out the two new professions being introduced in the game; the Dervish, a scythe-wielding holy warrior, and the Paragon, guardian angel of the Elonian people. In addition to testing out the new professions and arenas, players will also be able to compete for items that will be exchangeable for a variety of rewards throughout the weekend event.
The Guild Wars Nightfall PVP Preview event will kick off on Friday, July 28 at 12:01am PDT and will continue through Sunday, July 30 at 11:59pm PST.
This looks very interesting.

Those two new classes seem really neat. I'm interested in seeing what the Paragon plays like. Thanks for the info

I intrigued by how tha paragon might work, if it has a distance ressurection skill I would be in heaven. That sounds like a very nice secondary for my support necro.
But there is an increasing downside with more proffesions. It will be more and more difficult to find PUG's, if you have one of the proffesions regarded less-efficient by the main crowd. 'Sins have problems getting groups today and I guess we will see more of that.

I like the idea of the two new professions - Dervish and Paragon.
I sort of echo what Lago is saying but in a different way- More chapters, means the Guild and thus the Alliance is even more spread out throughout the realm of GW.
Before Factions came along, we as a Guild were a tighter bunch and grouped together almost every night without fail ............. now, its not so often ..................... with Nightfall, who knows.
By the time chapter 6 comes along, it probably wont be worth being part of a Guild as you will rarely see each other - this is a pessimistic view.

Well the pvp preview event came up about three months before the actual release of the game, this would mean a nightfall release in October/November, byt that time Factions would most likely be done with by many.
What I wonder about is indeed how spread out people will be and if it means Factions will die out seeing as some points are almost impossible to pass without other players.
That said what we don't have to forget is that in prophecies most of us had finished the game for months already and partying with guildmembers was what you headed to the game to do, in Factions it is already starting to be so for some of us and two months from now I believe we'll have quite a few players of the alliance looking to make groups with others, will it still be so in chapter 6 one wonders but then again my prediction is we'll see extension to chapters by way of additional chapters so as to limit the spread of people (Tyria is grossly underexploited, so is Cantha, I wouldn't put it past ANet to have a chapter retaking chapter 1 or 2 and completing the continent adding stories while passing, it would make the perfect extension).

I hope you are right. I too would love to see Tyria and Cantha expanded outwards. I hate seeing all those 'gaps' in the map. It would also bring players inwards again, instead of being spread out over several continents.

I guess how to develop good expansions is tricky. You have to provide a lot new stuff to keep the interest up, but if you add too much over a long time, many non-hardcore players will just fall off.
I have played the card game "Magic, the gathering" (my partner taught me it). That game is said to have inspired the developers of GW. You see several similarities, the rock-scissor-paper concept with proffesions, loads of skills where you have to chose your pick to play with, among others. "Magic" has had a 13 year life span, with 3 new realeases every year. With now over 10 000 cards (skills), it is impossible for a others than the very dedicated hardcore players to keep up (we fell off about 6 years ago, but still occasionally play for fun with our old cards). I guess medium/highend PvP will in the future be more and more difficult to enter for new players. In "Magic" they tried to make it easier for new players by having classes for different sets of expansions (all, last year, last 3 years, etc.). But that do not solve the problems for casual players. Old causal players have it difficult to play with new players since skills and skill mechanics are contiously introduced, renamed and removed, so there are a big difference in how the game was played 10 years ago and today.
I do not expect GW to have a 10 year lifespan, but I think some similar problems may surface. Also more and more empty old areas, if they not reuse Tyria and Cantha in new expansions (I hope for that).
Enough of gloom.... I'm looking forward to have a look at the new proffesions and the new North-Africa theme! ;D

If GW will have a 10 year lifespan then I will have too many characters to keep track of. But I also would have a lot of mini-pets!
Nice to see the GW developers are working so quickly on yet another expansion. I would suppose the drawback of that is that we might not again experience such nice expansions of existing territory, like we got with ToPK and SF. Both of these areas are challenging, I never even finished all the SF quests with my Tyrian characters. Both are enjoyable, and both are do-able with henchies only if one just wants to play in a more relaxed manner (can't do this with the Canthan elite missions or UW or FOW).
I am looking forward to seeing how the new chars dance! And if the Paragon female's undies tops that of the Ritualist!

It'll be interesting to see how the sales are. That is the same time frame that Burning Crusade will be coming out for WoW.
Personally, I wasn't too impressed with the new characters. I understand the Dervish and it's role. Doesn't look like a melee class though. Looks more Jedi like. And the male Paragon seems a little...um...fruity. Curious what a guardian angel will be able to do. Another support role with lots of buffs?

I found this link at the Guru site. Seems like there will be a new continent. Hmm, I had hoped exploring unused parts of the Tyria map. "NCsoft has announced the third Guild Wars campaign, Nightfall, which will have an exclusive PvP preview for current members on July 28-30. Like its predecessors, Nightfall is a standalone module with a new continent to explore, and will only require the earlier games if you have characters to transfer. However, veterans might be tempted to start fresh with one of the two new professions -- the angelic Paragon or the scythe-wielding Dervish, both of which are previewed at GameSpot." www.joystiq.com/2006/07/19/guild-wars-nightfall-preview/Regards, Lago Mortis

Customisable NPCs would only be interesting if the feature was implemented in the previous chapters too (maybe like the storage, needing chapter 3 to get access to it), if it is only implemented in nightfall you would get the same crappy NPCs in previous chapters with less players to party with it would sink the chapter (especially factions). New challenge missions? Why there is already a lot of trouble to find players for them now add some and finding players for the challenge missions will become hectic to say the least. Anyway I'm not too impressed at the moment, it looks like factions revisited and not like prophecies reinvented

250 quests, phew...or is it just me working too long for Cantha Fedex?
I would also have liked a less, "yet another save the world story" this time. There must be a lot of different scenarious that have been used and tested in the roleplaying community. We do not always have to save the world, do we?

Playing 7 characters (over two account), there is no way I will every be finished with all quests and all missions with one or more of them. Which is fine, since that is not my goal anyway. I enjoy diversity in the game, and so I play the character that suits my mood at the time. So I don't think I would ever be "finished" with any of the chapters completely, in the sense that there was nothing left to do. So I think I will be around to help again and again with Tyrian, Canthan and the new chapter's missions and quests.
Perhaps what may have been a problem with Factions is that it seems a lot of us hurried through the game, not in a rushing sense but more in a "constantly online and playing" sense, got everything done, and then perhaps lost interest. The drawback here is that it is always possible to help someone not as advanced in the game as you, but not vice versa, so all those front runners need to face the new chapter with either PUGs or henchies.
