OK, so this is not directly related to GW, but I thought it was pretty cool. Take a look at this image for a few seconds: Make sure you are happy about what you saw. Now, which way was it spinning? If you thought it was clockwise, you use more of the right side of your brain. And likewise, anti-clockwise = left-brained. Apparently left-brained is more common (I got clockwise ). If you concentrate, you can make it switch. I had a hard time but managed to. Some people see it switching all the time. Here are the dominant brain characteristics: LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses logic detail oriented facts rule words and language present and past math and science can comprehend knowing acknowledges order/pattern perception knows object name reality based forms strategies practical safe RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses feeling "big picture" oriented imagination rules symbols and images present and future philosophy & religion can "get it" (i.e. meaning) believes appreciates spatial perception knows object function fantasy based presents possibilities impetuous risk taking Now... how to relate this to Guild Wars... original article

Right here, although I'm also very detail-oriented with my job, along with some other Lefty traits.... So perhaps both? Couldn't get it to spin the other way though.
*edit* Sick - Now it's going both ways. *scratches head*

Well it started off going counterclockwise, but then ended up going clockwise for me so who knows. ;D

I have seen it some time ago. I'm definetely clockwise spinner.

Huh. It was clockwise when I saw it during normal hours. Now that it's 3am here, it's spinning counter-clockwise. I need a nap.

Clockwise - but if I concentrate I can make her spin the other way (& back if needed)

Cool! This is really weird, I feel like some kind of telepathic while concentrating on getting it to turn the other way around. I got clockwise at first (and most of the right-brain traits suit me well) but after some staring and concentrating I made it go the other way around, and admittedly some left-brain traits suit me as well. This must mean that at first my right-brain reacts but if it's not enough to solve whatever problem I have ahead my left brain takes over, at least that's what I want to believe .

It says left-brained is "reality based". My guess is that, based on my observing of the image, the "reality" is when you take the shadow into account. When I look at the shadow in combination with the figure, I see it spinning counter-clockwise and can make it switch.
When I first looked at it, and didn't pay much attention to the "reality" of the shadow, it only spun clockwise. "Fantasy based" there, since you're ignoring the shadow without even realizing it that way.

As far as I can see, the shadow is correct no matter which way it's spinning. It is not actually "spinning", it's just playing a pattern on one side, then playing the reverse on the other side. Our crazy minds just fill out the rest.
edit: Hmm actually it's not symmetrical. The shadow works fine in both directions though.

I guess it's just my bias then, as the shadow always makes it seem like it's spinning counter-clockwise for me. If I focus on the figure, I see clockwise. Looking at both, it can switch.

I can look at the shadow minutes on end while it still goes clockwise. Actually the spinning has nothing to do with the symmetry of the model. Since it's entirely black (and the shadow in only one shade of gray) the picture becomes "2D" and thus doesn't spin in reality. In reality, what it does is that it contracts and extracts to the middle and thus our brains believes it's spinning. Then whether it's spinning clockwise or counter-clockwise is entirely up to our brain. EDIT: Also, the shadow helps the illusion by making us more convinced that the picture is 3D while in fact it's not.

That was weird, I'm right, but can switch it now. When you see it clockwise it's her right leg and arm out, counter it's her left. Weird.

I see it as clockwise and no other way. I tried to look at it in all different ways and she wont change. But I have to disagree with the answers. There are some answers in the left brain side that I know I have. Like detail oriented, strategies and safe. As for the way I think all of the right brain answer are correct [glow=pink,4,300]Angel.......... [/glow]

As hard as I try to see it counter clockwise too I can only view it clockwise. Perhaps I need a brainwash first to see someone elses point of view. And that seems a quite desirable quality. Knowing me I will be trying this at least 20 more times in different moods on different times . . . .
