Hey all I thought that it would be useful to have a thread giving some hints on what each of us have found works well or not as the case maybe with our hero builds and hero tactics. I was getting pretty peeved with my hero's! But a few minor alterations has really helped. So thank you to those of you in Guild chat who helped me..... they should get the credit, I just can't remember who you were, sorry but thank you. 1. Only take a few skills - I had full skills bars for my hero's mimicking my character builds. Koss manages very well with my warrior build but the monk and dervish continually had energy problems. For the monk cutting right down to 2 healing skills, healing Sig and hex removal works well lots of space for different types of res which is handy. 2. Secondary professions - I tried having monk as all my hero's secondaries to help with healing themselves but they didn't seem to interested in staying alive and barely used them. I tried out ranger and after charming some double hard flamingo's I was pleased with the results and after reducing the number of skills i didn't have to sacrifice anything in the skill bar for charm and comfort. 3. Monk signet not being used - I equipped my monk hero with a healing signet for when he ran low on energy however he didn't use it even when we were getting turned into a nice red floor paint. Must have been a bug (understandable that we will have a few) I don't know if this has been fixed or if changing my build helped but after I reduced the number of healing skills he has started using it. I hope this helps at least one person and hopefully others will add their comments and hopefully it will help me. lol Thanks Gifted PS can we get any more space in the signature field? one more release and I wont be able to put down my new chars

Yeah that's a good idea with the fewer skills. I noticed Koss didn't use everything I gave him, so I guess less is more with these guys.
Ps- Try putting two Char on a line in your sig, i.e-
N/Mo The True Gifted One Lvl20; E/Mo Another Gifted One Lvl20
R/Mo/N Im A Gifted One Lvl20 + Pet CombatWombat Lvl20

It really helps with the monk as I only have Healing Breeze and Orison of Healing equiped at the moment as I'm still testing now he spams Orison till it can't cope then uses Breeze and it works ok......... so far (just waiting for an enchantment punisher to ruin that) I tested it out by sending them into a tough battle without me to see how they cope by watching their skill bars. The number of lines isn't a problem, I'm at 358 characters with a limit of 400 it was higher but i've taken out all the uneeded -'s ()'s and spaces so I could get some other names in. It doesnt look as pretty now. lol

Oh, gotcha. Well then, delete all those characters and make new ones with smaller names. It's a very simple solution.

400 characters is a lot for a signature, and you usually won't find forums having more. What's difficult is fitting character lists in when you use bold, italiic, bigger, or colored names.

Heh heh, drop the levels after the names, they will all be level 20 eventually anyway BTW: I didn't know Heroes can have secondary professions. How do they get these?

You can change their secondary at will whenever you are in town. Just use the K screen where you equip their skills, and click where it says "Warrior" or whatever at the top.
Whilst we are on the subject, does anyone have a decent monk protection build I could use on one of them? I have one that seems to work fairly well, but they are always running out of energy.

I can't guarantee that they will all make it to 20 lol. Guess I could drop the lvls tho. Cerryl, thats not a bad idea but I'll stick with Jane's idea till I run outta space again. ;P 400 bah! I want more, MORE I tell you!!!!! What can I say I'm just toooooooooo greedy.

I must admit I haven't looked at my heroes using there skills. But they are doing a great job, so there was no real need to watch them critically. It lasted until me and my heroes were lvl 16-17 in the Assault on Beknor Harbour that we faced our first loss. Poor Koss got overwhelmed. Not a hench or hero died before that sad moment. Without realizing I was well underway to the survivor title. Dunkoro and Tahlkora have kept me alive to this moment, they helped me pass lvl 20 and I am thanking them dearly that I'm still on my way to indomitable survivor. I guess they ain't run out of energy much, otherwise they wouldn't be so good in keeping all alive. The build I use for my monks is nothing special and very basic.
Dunkoro 1. Orison of healing 2. Word of healing [E] 3. Healing Breeze 4. Healing seed 5. Healing whisper 6. Remove hex 7. Charm animal 8. Resurrect
Tahlkora 1. Reversal of Fortune 2. Life sheath [E] 3. Protective spirit 4. Remove hex 5. Mend ailment 6. Charm animal 7. Divine boon 8. Resurrect
According to wiki, skills on the left of the bar are used more and used over ones to the right.
I use resurrect as hard res because I want to avoid the drawback the other res skills have in the midst of battle, rebirth - loosing all energy, restore life - a touch spell, possibly taking them into the mess the dead party member was in. If a party member goes down, a sig is often used by another before the monks start there slow res. I use a minor heal / prot and minor divine rune for them. They have max collector staffs.
If I can I take along the Paragon motivation hench for heal support.
I made all my heroes ranger secondary and charmed flamingo's for us all. At start just for fun, strolling around with a flock of flamingo's. But I found out there is safety in numbers. They take some casualties in the more nasty big mob battles, but better a pink bird then one of the hench or me!

"Rallying the troops"
Twisted Sister Jenn: "Uhh uhm . . . could I have your attention please? Thanks for coming all. Dunkoro, Tahlkora, Sousuke, Olias, Melonni, . . . .Koss? . . . Where is Koss? Well never mind, let's continue. We squashed the bugs, uprooted the plants, wiped the corsairs, we climbed the ranks and we did it together. Thanks for doing a great job all. But still I would like to improve. It's all in the details. If I may make some comments? . . ."
Dunkoro: "I made plans for the Sunspears all my life, and you have comments?" Twisted Sister Jenn: "uhm, you are doing fine Dunkoro, I just wanna go over some details." Dunkoro: "Ok, your the leader"
Twisted Sister Jenn: "I know we are doing well together in battle, but I think we could even be more efficient when we all attack the same target" Melonni: "But you didn't attack the monk first in that last mission!" Twisted Sister Jenn: "I know Melonni, but I thought the ele boss to be a little more dangerous and damaging, wanted to interrupt those nasty spells and take it down before we got hurt too much." Melonni: "Want us to act as mindless bots? hmmpf !" Twisted Sister Jenn: No no, you have a right to your own opinions, but a little more on target would be nice."
Twister Sister Jenn: "Tahlkora, I have seen you use mend ailment on conditions that were almost over. Better tackle them right away or not at all." Tahlkora: "But it's my way of healing, the divine boon still does its work." Twisted Sister Jenn: "True, true, but it could be more . . . efficient."
Twisted Sister Jenn: "Olias, the Spiteful Spirit is an important damaging tool for the party. I put it on top of your list, please use it at the start of battle, and not after many other skills and until the battle is almost over." Olias: "You should have made me MM. I do much better as MM." Twisted Sister Jenn: "Let me think about that. I come back on that in our next meeting."
Twisted Sister Jenn: "Sousuke, I asked you to stick with the party, but you run as soon as the first Kournan guard wants to swing his weapon at you." Sousuke: "He, my armor ain't that good, and as you told yourself, running is the best defense skill." Twisted Sister Jenn: "True, but please try to run a little less, do your spells, and trust on Dunkoro and Tahlkora to help you out."
Twisted Sister Jenn: "I'm grateful to have you all as comrades and I hope we can improve a little." Twisted Sister: "A Sunspear never fights alone !"
*Dunkoro, Tahlkora, Melonni, Sousuke and Olias turn around and walk away, not saying another word*

I set my Necro hero up as full fledged MM N/Mo, which seemed to work pretty good. He's very capable. Death set to 16 Soul reaping to 13 skills (from left to right) Animate Bone Fiend Animate Shambling horrors Animate Bone Horrors Blood of the Master (some minion heal) Jagged Bones (Elona Elite, gives enchanted minions a second life, could be replaced with death nova) Signet of Lost Souls (Elona skill, healing and energy management) Heal Area (combined self heal and minion heal) Rez (just in case, rebirth would have depleted his energy too much) Edit: Btw, a hero MM is a great energy management for a necro player. I'm so happy that I do not need to manage the minions myself, now I get all the goodies but none of the drawbacks :-) Regards, Lago Mortis

Very nice, Gigs! I enjoyed that.
BTW, when playing as the only human in the party, there is one situation when it is an advantage for having the heroes (and maybe henchies) target differently than you: when you are changing your target to spread hexes to various enemies. I am playing Elona with my Necro TS Enna as blood and curses, and I like to get parasitic bond and various other health degen hexes on several enemy, not just one. In this case it is actually nice knowing that some of the Heroes are pounding away at the monks while I spread these hexes to the rest of the party.

Thanks Lago for the info... I will give that a try. I'm not sure if I have all those skill though...may have to go shopping... Oh, and Jane as for your monk getting a pounding try setting him to stay out of combat. He will keep you healed for the most part, but he will also stay back away from the enemy and cus he's not in battle the enemy should not attack him.....

I find it annoying that Heroes, Dunkoro my monk specifically, run up to join you in formation. The problem with this formation is that they're standing a few steps ahead of you.
So you may run up to a group and remain outside of the aggro bubble, yet your heroes beside you push far enough ahead to trigger the enemy group. I had this happen last night and it got Cerryl, Verin & myself killed.

Dunkoro has been a thorn in my side so far. Dies almost instantly when taking on any average size group. Eventually if you have no other monk or monk secondary, you run out of rez. Had this problem frequently earlier on. Though Zalis Dunk was doing better last night besides previous incident. Then again he can only get better.
I had just Orison, healing breeze, remove hex and resurrect on him. I'll try some different skills and see if it helps as much as it did for Zalis.

Dunkoro has been a thorn in my side so far. Dies almost instantly when taking on any average size group. Every time I aggro anything for a fight. All the enemies go strait for Dunkoro. Its like they got monk magnets or something. All their warriors go strait for my monk and all their monks go running into another group of enemies so the henchies end up aggroing 3-4 groups. I can't understand why anet wants to make the pve game so much like the pvp game when there are so many people that don't play pvp because they don't like it. and running monks is a pain when your playing a warrior, you don't even get to them and they are running the other way. If I was my mesmer it wouldn't make any difference because everything dies from energy rape.

Btw, I tried Master of Whisper as BiP'er. He BiP's, maybe not always in the best way, but he does! Even if he's equipped with a lot blood damage spells as well.
