I've been thinking about moving the boards to a site I host. This would give us a little more flexibility on the boards. I understand there are some concerns about what would happen if I left or didn't want to work on it anymore. I think I can ease those concerns if a lot of people have them. I'd like people to take a look at what I've done over the past couple of days and vote on if they think it would be worth while. The test forum can be found here: sot.fisherstechtank.com/bbYou can log in with username: guest password: guest1234 2 issues I know there are right now. The Avatars and Attachments did not move over. Avatars are not a big issue, the attachments would be a process to download and readd but nothing I think that should be a decision maker for us. Feel free to post and look around. Let me know what you think. If we go ahead with this there are also some other things I can add over time. These would be a more interesting home page before the forums, a gallery that we could use to hold images rather than a free image hosting site, and we could even host our wiki if we wanted to. I look forward to hearing everyone thoughts on the idea. Zagar

Nice idea Zagar. I think we have everything we need - artists, developers, admins among the Scouts. So with some team coordination and light effort we can create a nice site and forum to be prepared for the sequel

I think it's an excellent idea Zagar. I've been thinking about this, and as far as I can see we have a lot to gain and not much to lose. - We would get complete control over the forum and website.
- Including whatever customisations we want
- We won't have ads
- It will look better
- We keep all the old info.
- If Proboards goes down, we loose everything. If we move to a player-hosted server and the player doesn't want to host anymore, they can give the data to another guild member to take care of (of course, the player could also take the site down without doing this, but you're not going to do that, are you? ).
It will be interesting to see what other Scouts think, but considering you have managed to copy all the data over, it should be a nicer solution altogether.

...so ,the Towel can change my personal motto after every my comment ? So, I see the pros already said there opinion . If it will be any better - lets go for it . I hope Zagar will remain quite long as a scout...not to move in retirement when he get all the titles he wants and wait for GW2 eventually ( I saw that happen )

Yes Angel, we can find a theme that you like too Honestly though, that's part of the flexibility we will gain. We can add multiple themes and each person can find one they like. The one I did was just one I found that was more closely related than the default that comes with it.

I think it's amazing what has been done in copying almost everything over to the new site. Well done Zagar!
I like the idea of more control over the site ourselves.
I am fairly happy about our current site btw comparing to a few others I have visited, but there are better ones too.
From the concern part: I have first hand experience in one member leaving the guild taking with him the site in which a couple of people (me not the least) invested a lot of energy and time to put in content. I have no concerns about Zagar's loyalty (as I didn't have at the time about the person in Mountain Wolves, who hijacked our forum), but to just take a more business like approach I would like to see more formal agreements just in case. We have a lot of content, value and emotion in our quality forums!
So: yes, please, but let's deal with the single point of failure issue in an adult manner.

Ano, you make a good point. This is something that Towel and I had discussed.
I have no problem with a formal agreement of some sort, but as the guild is not really a formal business of any type there won't be much to force that agreement. Having said that I will do whatever I can to ease peoples concerns. I have discussed with Towel that we can have a couple of people with access to the site so that they can do backups as they feel necessary. That way if any one of them decided to hijak the site, the others would have backups to restore it.
I'm excited about doing this. It's what I've started my own business doing, that's why I have the hosting space. I have to deal with the issue of people wondering of what happens if I leave town. I know I'll be around, I enjoy having web space to play with. My christmas gift to my niece and nephew were their own websites. I really don't plan on my hosting disappearing any time soon.

And worse case if Zags decides to go all spooky on us... I'm his RL brother and I'll travel to his home and whoop him good - just like the old days. Course in the old days I was bigger then him.... maybe I'll just send him a real angry letter instead!

Okay, from what I can tell there has been very good feedback about moving the forum. With that information I am going to go ahead with the move.
I am planning to running the process that will gather the data to move at 8:00 AM EDT on Thursday. Once the process completes no more postings will get moved. Hopefully once I get the data I can get an admin to set the forums to maintenance mode so that no more posting can be done.
After I have the new data loaded into the new forum I will run another process that will send private messages to each person on the old board letting them know what the new password is.
If you have any questions about this please let me know. I think Biscuit and I have talked through the transition and are trying to make it as smooth as possible.
