Hardcore was a great innovation (imo) for Diablo2 which set up the requirement that once you die... you're dead. No rezing, no leeroy. You had to plan each engagement and be prepared for every eventuality (and hitting alt-f4 was a cheezy way out).
Well, the closest thing we have in GW in the survivor title - but .... you get to keep on going. Even worse, you have heros and henchies that can be your meat shield and be your healing salvation. ICK!
I'd like to propose an "ironman" competition within the Scouts. The driving rules:
1) If you die - you're out 2) No using henchmen or heros (unless explicitly required for a mission in which case they must have empty skill bars) 3) No grouping with anyone but other ironmen competitors 4) No twinking!! (so no usage of Xunlai Storage)
The winner is the last one standing (ie alive)
The goal being to see who can progress the furthest in the game and to attempt to do it with other Scouts for smiles.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a great idea. I'm not sure if my playing times would coincide with enough people, but I would like to give it a go. Sounds fun - and a worthy challenge for such noble adventurers!

Hmmmmm, looks like a monk (not me of course ) in such an Ironman Party could be tempted to have a competitor removed rather than making the party survive . . . . Interesting balancing act . . . . Now are we talking about starting fresh new characters or existing ones? I have already done The Ironman once and that was quite a challenge so . . . . . .

Brand new characters of course!
This would have to be a long running "competition" solely based on the various time zones and play times of all the members. Course I can't think of a time since I joined when there hasn't been another Scout on the same time as me.
The other challenge... where to start? While Prophecies has the nostalgia factor, you miss out on a couple of classes. Course then it would be a choice between Factions and Nightfall!!
I wonder if not allowing Monk primaries should be added as a rule...

One thing that will be nice about this - there'll be no need to worry about fitting in a rez skill. ;D

Where were you when I was interested? ;D I played the Lady more or less normal, without farming, and would have loved to group more. Our "survivors anonimous" movement had too many drop outs . But agreed, Heros make a survivor much more easy than before. At the moment the "new slot" requirement makes it difficult for me, because I have only about two characters neglected enough to restart them. And after months of careful play I enjoy my new unbearable lightness of being able to die Ano has a point about the rules being ambivalent and inviting backstabbing. Seems like you expect the competition to not last until level 20... Only then a pure-scout group makes sense, with mostly 4 players only and no hench as well. When only two or three are left, how will you form groups anyway? I'd rather do this with my normal characters in Hard Mode on a "per event" basis - no rez allowed... maybe even no Elite... I've started too many characters already to find it challenging any more. Better if the task is the challenge than to outlast your companions IMO

Maybe we could pace it out... one or two missions per scheduled meeting?

Prehaps the wording should be more along the lines of "friendly competition to see how far we can get without dying". At least until level 20...
By no means would I want this to be about seeing who can get who killed first. Instead I'd want this to be treated with the good will and smarts that Scouts seem to posess in abundance. Its the travel that will be interesting and challenging - the end "survivor" just gets to put on a nice hat.
Heck, I'll post the final reward as being 5 bison tokens so that your character can have a proper crown.

Matter of fact, I already have a Paragon started as another Survivor attempt....I wouldn't mind using her for something like this. This character I will definitely delete if she doesn't make it to 20. How often are we talking about meeting?

Well I took the oportunity to prepare a nice level 1, 0xp Elementalist for this. I went for Pre-searing just because it has been a while, and also, if we're doing Hardcore, we should do it properly. Have been doing about as much you can do in Pre without killing stuff:

I went and created an initial ironman paragon myself... just to reserve the name of course.
Christian, I'm thinking the folks participating will set up their own schedule to be as often or rare as needed. Worse case if you miss out - you're still alive!

Just an update (since its been a week since last posting!)
I've updated the folks I think are going to jump in and take part. I figure we can get this "officially" started in the new year once the Wintersday festival has passed and folks have had a chance to get back from their various vacation spots.

Still another bump - anyone else interested in joining the motley crue listed in my first post? I'd really like to have 8+ folks so that there's a real chance for doing missions full.

I freed up a character to start in Elona - Just did the tutorial leveling me up to lvl 1 (and didn't die) If people take paragons we're obliged to start in Elona or am I missing something? Anyway I can join you with Mazz Aeternitus (R) If I'm getting the rules correctly. By the way still got some (free)booze stored for Bob - unfortunately our time schedules are difficult to match I think.
Mazz (still alive after the tutorial) ;D

I've added you to the list on the first post. Brings us to 6 folks.
Anyone else interested in joining up? Once we get 8 (or more) then we can figure out which storyline we'll start from.

I think we'll leave it up to the group if we allow such an obviously advanced (level 3!?!?!?!) character take part. Added you to the list.

I'd be happy to participate when I have free time. The new semester starts Monday so I don't know how much time I will actually have to commit. But I'm happy to join it.
As nice as pre-searing is and all for soloing and such if the goal is to work through the game together it might be better to start factions or night fall characters but whatever you like. I'm pretty sure if we start from factions I'll make a new Rit and anywhere else will probably be a mesmer. I have one of each character I care to play already so worst case I replace a mule.
