Wow, UW is a great challenge!
The monsters and quest really keep you alert but the without doubt hardest thing is to keep a team together for the whole trip.
Disconnects and real life events make it hard to have all 8 available to the end. A full blown UW trip seem to take 6-8 hours, and you are pretty fast if doing it on 6.
Yesterday I started out at 6 PM, my local time, and began gather a team. At 8:30 we had a full team (while waiting we went through 2 lvl's at the Tombs).
During the first attempt we got Dana disconnected when we came to the smiting area. She told us not to come back, since she stilll had lag issues. After clearing out the first 3 areas (labyritnh, Ice Wastes and Village) one in the team had to leave, so we took on a new quest and failed (it is hard to keep these tortured spirits alive).
Back at base (ToA) we got a new party and went out again (11 PM). Things went very wel!. We had cleared out 4 of 7 area, done 3 quests and got one spider reward (Poor Celes, you should have been there). We were about to take on the infamous Mesmer plain (120+ lvl 28 mesmers, hex galore!) when our warrior tank had to leave.
We continued through the plain. This is one really fun area! You never see this much hexes anywhere else. They even interrupted my BiP (1/4s casting time), talk about timing! Our 2 rangers Bowline and Aewith (as well as Lulu/Jane) made some nice tank job. We had almost finished it when Bowline got disconnected. We killed the last monument dryder at the rather late hour 3 AM, when Aewith had to say goodbye. We had then cleared out 5 of 7 areas.
The rest of us me, Lulu/Jane, Kylia/Kaia, Lucy/Kira and Mercia (an old friend), 1 Ne, 2 Mes and 2 Mo, continued to the easier of the 2 remaining areas, Bone Pits. This is a necro area where Lulu could use shatter hex, I could make wells and Kylia easy could interrupt more nasty spells.
We cleared it out (Darn, we are good!) and restored the monument at the end. Time 4:40 AM. We all then started to get messages from ANet that demanded we took some vacation and got a real life. The last area, spawning pools, is filled with terrorwebs and would have taken us ages to clear out so we called that a night!
To sum it up: We cleared out 6 of 7 areas and also restored the monuments in these areas. We finished 3 quests (we had saved most of the quests to after the clearout). Two in the team, Bowline and Aewith, got their first UW experience and they did so with honor! Aewith and Mercia also got their first ever ecto drops. Ectos kept raining throughout the trip. I think we got about 16 all together, with Bowline standing in one pretty heavy shower (6 ectos), I got 4 myself and only Lulu got no one.
A trip to remember! One great night, 11 hours online!
Thanks everyone!
