I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this but maybe it would be worth anyone being able to find out ..... I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way to download all the ingame files BEFORE I start up GW as whenever I move to a new area I end up having to wait a while each time because I need to download 600+ files. It's driving me insane as recently I had to uninstall GW due to some update error on my computer and when I restarted the game I had to download 18,000+ files straight off!! Help!

I never tried this, but as far as I know you can start gw with the parameter -image, then it downloads everything.

Yes Clarice is right. Edit your GuildWars shortcut so that the target reads: "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image (or wherever you have installed GW, just add -image on the end anyway ) That will download the whole shebang. It won't actually start GW once it's done though, so you have to either remove the -image parameter afterwards, or make a copy and keep the copy to use whenever you want to image. Also, you may want to do it when you are not planning on playing for a while, because it does download everything you've not downloaded yet. Clear as mud? edit: I never manage to get all the ideas out in one shot. If you don't want to mess about with shortcuts you can just type that into the run command as a one off thing. Start > Run > type it in.

I just had another thought that is useful if you are reinstalling GW, or putting it on a new comp.
If you have access to a good GW install, you can just copy the DAT file over to the new install and prevent most of the downloads. I had a friend who bought Nightfall, and using my data file saved him a loads of downloads. The only thing you need to be aware of is that your settings via the F11 menu will be transferred also.
To do this with a new install, run the installer as usual to let it create the game folder and icons, but when it starts the big download, cancel the install and copy the file over. Once it's copied, the game should be fully installed.
The file is called Gw.dat, and is in the Guild Wars directory. Mine's currently at 3.4GB in size.

Cool ... thanks for that Towel and Clarice .... i'll try the -image command tonight and see how I get on ... I don't mind having to wait a bit as it seems that all i'm doing in-game at the moment is waiting anyway. Once it's all sorted it should be nice and smooth and I can play normally again. A big CHEERS! from me Dante.

Just as a best practice, I will run a -image when I get wind of any big download (festival events being the obvious ones). Its just so much easier to not have to worry about the silly loading screen popping up between maps.
PLUS - it makes for a less fragmented gw.dat!

Wow. You guys are so computer literate. I just let it load between areas. It doesn't seem to take that long for me. Although, I have noticed some occassional weird graphical glitches with Gwen that have never happened before. Sometimes, the waterfalls and fires aren't animated. Strange.

Well, I ran -image when I got home from work yesterday at 6.30pm ..... it finally finished downloading at around 2.35am .... 8 hours and 5 mins to download the thick end of 78,000 files ... but at least now my game is seamless ...... *sigh* ...... ZzzzZZzzzzZZZzzzzzzzzz ......
