I think the people complaining about TS sound quality just aren't choosing good codecs.

90% of the time there were members on, not necessarily doing anything together as a group but just talking. ... I've heard people complain about the sound quality of TS over Vent, but I've never been able to discerne much of a difference. I usually don't have my headset on when playing - but log into TS anyway on mute until someone logs in - then I'll set the headset up. Most of the time people just join and leave again immediately from what I've seen. Actually you can specify the bit-rate of the compression for each channel in TS. If your this was set too low on the server your friends used that could explain it. It's always sounded fine to me. edit: oops - didn't see Zalis' post there.

Being EASL (English as a Second Language), I try to keep TS at a minimum, since it's much easier for me to type and read than to speak and listen in a foreign language (I sometimes feel I'm having foreign language hearing comprehension and speaking tests all over again! ), and I end up participating much less than I would otherwise. Of course I'm the exception rather than the rule! I use it when there's need though, such as in PvP or if everyone in a group is using it. I actually used it a whole evening once while grouping with Ronnie and I can't complain.... it can definitely be much more efficient in some situations.

A lot of times, I too am quiet and type in Guild or Team chat, so that isn't unusual Grey!
Also, I feel a lot of times, people will just log in for a second to see if anything is going on, and then leave. This too, is not unusual.

Walmart Ftw. I have a logitec headset with built in mike that is really great. I think it was 15 dollars. I understand the Scouts do not really use TS much. I would encourage members to use it more often. It really is a much better way to communicate efficiently in missions and quests. I don't know how many times I've been killed while trying to type a message by hitting the wrong key, like the "R" key when I think I'm typing and instead run off into the middle of a group of Afflicted. Also, it 'connects' members in a much more meaningful and personal way. One of the things I enjoyed about a couple of the old guilds I was in, was their use of TS or Vent for regular communication. 90% of the time there were members on, not necessarily doing anything together as a group but just talking. TS is VERY easy to use, it is much more intuitive than Ventrillo and the sound is fine. I've heard people complain about the sound quality of TS over Vent, but I've never been able to discerne much of a difference. It's usually the user, and not the program, that's got the settings messed up or a crappy mike or bad soundcard. Anyway, I ramble. I agree totally with deladarklodina. When I play Battlefield 2142, having TS is the difference between living and dying. Laters...
