I have now created a Male Warrior/Monk named 'Uhtred the Red' to help anyone that is in Pre-Searing in the Prophecies Campaign.
His aim is to help people through the various quests, not to supply arms or gold to anyone. He is there purely for muscle and guidance.
He will remain in Pre-Searing for this purpose.

I'd be suprised if you can get much higher than lvl 10 in presearing. After you reach a certain point you stop getting xp from lower lvl monsters.

I have heard of people getting level 20 there. Before, when monsters followed you for long, you dragged a couple of charrs to the resurrect shrine (north of the wall). You let them kill you lots of times until they had levelled up enough, then you killed them. Rinse and repeat one gazillion times.
Today you have to run back to them after being resurrected so I guess even fewer try this method. But for those who absolutely wants a lvl 20 char in Pre-sear - it is possible! I have seen one lvl 15 once, but not anything higher.
Sarah got to level 9 there I think. I have never been any higher, despite Lago spending almost three weeks there, but I was way too shy then to ask anyone to do the north of the wall trip.

It always surprises me how quickly characters evolve once they're out of pre-searing.
Both Crumbly and Towel spent a long time there, and once they left they shot up.
I noticed they decided against a seperate zone for Factions, I wonder what we'll see in Nightfall? I'm betting they'll keep the pre-searing style just to Prophecies.

I think when I started to play GW, the concept of preseering was advertised as a way to isolate higher level characters from the very beginners. I think a lot of games like Ultima Online (which I never played so I dunno what I am talking about maybe) got bad reps because higher levels kept pestering and taking advantage of the beginners.
GW had the idea of a temporal division between levels 1 to 5, 6, 7 and thereafter.
I miss the slow buildup and earning of skills in Factions. Seems wierd to me that you have to and may buy all your skills, and that you rise to lvl 20 so quickly without ever having to spend time learning your low level skills.

I liked the pre-searing concept and the slower rise to lvl20. With such a low level cap, it is really more fun for it to take longer to work towards. Plus buying the skills sucks. I'd rather earn them and learn them. Hopefully Nightfall is more like Proph than Factions. *crosses fingers*

In the past it was possible to reach lvl 20 in pre-searing. You could get yourself killed over and over again like lago described and the monsters gained xp from it and could lvl up. So killing the leveled monster you could still get xp. After a game update that stopped monsters from gaining xp and leveling this is no longer possible. The highest lvl monsters in pre are the 4 bosses on the shrine in the Northlands, They are lvl 10, so killing them over and over again can take you to lvl 16. Saving up cashing all quests till after that to gain another lvl is not possible. 11.000 xp needed for lvl 17 but only 10.550 (if my math is right) max possible in all presearing quests (some professions have more xp in their profession quests after the initial one, necro has 750, monk, warrior, ranger 500 and mesmer and ele 250). In the past few days I have seen 3 characters in pre-searing with lvl 15. My Twisted Sister Amy is a Me/(nothing yet) lvl 11 with mr Jones, a nice lvl 10 Charr eating warthog as pet. Regards Gigs PS. If there was a title for spending to many hours in pre searing I would probably have it

Thanks, Gigs!
I did not know monster did not get exp any longer.
Pre-Sear is a very nice area, I made a new char there not so long ago, TS Knyn.
Level 11 is impressive! Lago struggled a lot, but never got to level 9, very close though. But since I was a newbie then I had used up all my quest rewards early. I also did not dare to party with somebody to get the res sig and the northern wall quest. I had read an early guide that told you to at least reach level 8 in pre-sear so you were ready for the big challenges in the harsh post-sear. I had level 9 as goal for Lago, but gave up since it started to be a very tiresome grinding for very few exp points. I think at the end there was only one or two monsters that gave me extra exp.
Had to say I was a tiny bit disappointed when I first came to Post, and was not butchered instantanously by high level River Scales. Could have saved me from at least a couple of Catacomb trips.

I enjoyed clearing the Northlands 3 times in the last days.
Groups of 4 lvl 7-8 Charr with a 2 men team. Clearing the Altar with the 4 bosses.
Keep in mind that that u got almost no armor (Al 7 for mesmer) and no über weapons yet... well I found this nice purple mesmer staff +6 energy, 8-12 chaos damage , req 4 in domination ... but it wont get much better in pre.
All in all a fun and challenging thing to do.

What about the rest of the Scouts, don't you think they want candles too ? So before you go post, could you pick up the 76 Votive candles I got and take them with you ? But still the nicest Votive Candle is Lago's where we used to camp around. A nice candle with a story . . . I was there when Lago saw someone from a PUG in Abaddon's Mouth mission drop it to make room in his inventory. . . Lago is carrying it in her backpack ever since.

Well, Gigs, 76 candles sure is possible, just need to keep creating a new character, doing the minimal amount of stuff in preseering to get the candles, over to post, storage, drop them off, delete character, start again.....
Hmmm, me thinks Anet might then ban me for being a bot, heh heh.

I don't know what these candles are. I've heard them mentioned before but I've never seem them. It´s a necro quest in presearing, where u get a candle to light four braziers in the catacombs. Kara

Is it just me or are the beginning areas one of, if not the most, beautiful in the game? I remember just sitting and staring at some of the pre-searing places for ages, even when I did it the fourth time round. Shing Yea island had the same effect.
I like that you can go back to Shing Yea, so you can still go sightseeing, but I agree that the speed level to 20 makes you appreciate it all a bit less.
Uh, and, other than spooky occult rituals, what exactly does one do with a pile of stolen canldes? >.>
